A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Daniel Aruebose, a young child whose death shocked Ireland. Police confirmed the arrest as part of an ongoing murder investigation.
The suspect was detained after arriving at Dublin Airport. He is now being questioned at a Garda station in the Dublin region under laws that allow police to hold a suspect during a serious criminal investigation.
Reports say the man had recently been deported from Brazil to Ireland before his arrest. Police had been working with authorities abroad to locate him during the investigation.
This is the second arrest linked to the case. A woman in her 20s was arrested last year but later released without charge. The investigation remains active, and no one has been formally charged in court at this stage.
Background to the Case
Daniel Aruebose was three years old when he was last seen alive in 2021 at his home in Donabate, north Dublin.
Concerns about the child’s welfare were raised years later, which led to a search by Irish police. Human remains were discovered in September near the apartment complex where Daniel had lived. DNA testing later confirmed the remains were his.
After the discovery, police launched a murder investigation. The case also led to a wider review of child-protection records by Ireland’s child and family agency after questions were raised about how the situation went unnoticed for so long.
Daniel would have turned eight in December 2025. His death deeply affected the local community in Donabate and across Ireland.
Investigation Update
Police say interviews with the arrested man are ongoing. Investigators continue to gather evidence and keep Daniel’s family informed about developments.
Authorities have not released further details about the suspect or possible charges. Gardaí say the investigation is still in progress.
