By Thousands of mourners gathered in the Iranian city of Qom on Tuesday for the funeral procession of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei. The event drew people from many parts of Iran, along with visitors from several other countries, making it one of the biggest public gatherings in the city.
The ceremony began after funeral prayers were held at Jamkaran Mosque. Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli led the prayers. After that, the procession moved toward the Shrine of Fatima Masumeh, one of Iran’s most important religious sites.
Long before the procession began, the nearly seven-kilometer route between Jamkaran Mosque and the shrine was already packed with mourners. Many had traveled long distances to pay their final respects to the late leader and members of his family. People carried Iranian flags, religious banners, red flags linked to calls for revenge, and portraits of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei during the march.
The funeral also became a moment for many attendees to show support for Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei. Crowds chanted religious and political slogans throughout the procession, while some participants openly backed the country’s new leadership.
Among the foreign visitors were groups of Shia Muslims from Nigeria, who traveled to Qom to attend the funeral and join the mourning events.
Reports said the gathering included families of those killed in the recent conflict, wounded veterans, clerics, university professors, students, young people, and many other members of the public from different parts of the country.
To serve the large crowd, dozens of volunteer stations were set up along the funeral route. These stations offered free water, drinks, and light refreshments to mourners throughout the day. Emergency teams, security forces, and municipal workers were also deployed across the city to help manage the crowds, assist visitors, and keep the ceremony orderly.
The funeral procession in Qom marked another major part of Iran’s national mourning period. Large crowds, religious rituals, and organized public services showed the importance of the event for many who attended.
